Mercedes-AMG Sets New EV Record, Covering 40,000 Kilometers in 8 Days

As the number of electric cars increases, so do attempts to break new records. For example, Xiaomi’s EV recently set a new record for the fastest electric car at the Nürburgring circuit. Now, Mercedes-AMG, a company working on a new EV architecture, has broken some records of its own.
The German automotive giant made headlines with its “AMG GT XX” electric concept car, which traveled an incredible 40,000 kilometers in just under 8 days. This feat was accomplished at the Nardò test track in Italy with a team of 17 drivers, including F1 pilot George Russell.

The two Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept cars used in the attempt completed the journey in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds. The vehicles maintained a speed of around 300 km/h and only stopped to recharge. In total, the cars broke 25 different electric vehicle world records.
Perhaps the most notable record was for the longest distance covered in a 24-hour period. The AMG GT XX managed to travel 5,479 kilometers in 24 hours, setting a new world record for an electric vehicle in this category. It’s also worth noting that the car generates 1,360 horsepower.
